The members of the PNP ACG CYBERCOPS in Canlubang, Calamba City, Laguna arrested CARTHERINE RAMOS of Villa de Calamba, Calamba City, Laguna after receiving the money sent by the victim though Money Transfer in Laguna.
PSSUPT RECZON TITO ACABADO, Acting Director, PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group said that the suspect demanded money from the victim amounting to seventy thousand pesos in exchange of not exposing the intimate photographs and video of the victim.
The victim @ Maryjane filed a complaint to our Regional Anti-Cybercrime Office 4A (RACO 4A) in Calamba City, Laguna that she was being blackmailed on her Facebook account through messenger using a fake name Billy Jade Torres that she possessed her intimate photographs and videos, said Acabado.
The operating team led by PCInsp JOSEPH ARVIN LEONES VILLARAN, RACO 4A with the support from CIDG4A-LAGUNA, PIB LPPO, and CALAMBA CPS immediately conducted entrapment operation for violation of Robbery Extortion pursuant to sec. 6 of RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The suspect was arrested on July 26, 2016 at about 6:30 PM at Calamba City, Laguna.
According to the official, the suspect demanded seventy thousand pesos but it was reduce to thirty thousand pesos and the victim requested to give an initial of three thousand pesos. Acabado further said that the suspect agreed to send the money through a money transfer that resulted to her arrest.
The PNP ACG is warning the public that they must be responsible on what they post or upload to their social media accounts, e-mails, or blogspots. “Once this sensitive information was uploaded to the Internet, we do not know who can see, access or download these information”, said Acabado.
“We are encouraging netizens to file complaints to our regional offices if they have been victims of cybercrime”, said Acabado.
