On April 26, 2025, at about 10:30 AM in Iloilo City, operatives of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 6 (RACU 6) arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as alias “Nonoy,” for the illegal online sale of registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards.

The operation stemmed from a proactive cyber patrolling by RACU 6, targeting the illegal online sale of registered SIM cards. The suspect was found openly selling SIM cards on Facebook, priced between Php25.00 and Php30.00 each. This prompted the initiation of an entrapment operation, which led to the arrest of the suspect. During the apprehension, authorities seized a total of 2,500 registered SIM cards from the possession of the suspect.

“Nonoy” is facing charges for violation of RA No. 11934 (SIM Registration Act), in relation to Section 6 of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

The operation aligns with the directive of Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil, Chief of the PNP, to intensify cyber patrolling and online investigations aimed at cracking down on illegal online activities. Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), called on the public to support authorities in combating cybercrime. He stated, “If you know someone involved in the illegal online sale of registered SIM cards, report it immediately to the PNP ACG so we can take appropriate action. Together, we can create a safer cyberspace for everyone.”
