On May 19, 2025, at about 10:00 PM, operatives of the Tarlac Provincial Cyber Response Team (Tarlac PCRT) conducted an entrapment operation in Capas, Tarlac, that led to the arrest of a 42-year-old dental technician, alias “Paolo,” for offering “Do-It-Yourself” (DIY) dental braces services online.
The operation stemmed from a proactive cyber patrolling of Tarlac PCRT, during which they discovered a Facebook post by the suspect offering DIY dental braces at Php3,300.00. Tarlac PCRT immediately coordinated with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA), which later confirmed that Paolo is not a licensed dentist and is not authorized to perform installation or adjustment of dental braces. Further investigation revealed that “Paolo” had been offering these illegal services for over a decade.
Although Paolo claimed to be a licensed dental technician, such credential does not grant permission to perform dental procedures, including the installation of braces, as stated under RA No. 9484 (Philippine Dental Act of 2007).
“Paolo” is facing charges for violation of RA No. 9484, in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
The operation aligns with the directive of Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, Chief of the PNP, to strengthen both proactive and reactive actions against cybercrime and ensure public safety in cyber environment. Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), commended the Team for the successful operation. “We urge everyone to be cautious when seeking professional services on the internet. Only trust licensed practitioners. If you encounter suspicious or unauthorized dental providers, report them immediately to the nearest ACG office so we can act swiftly to prevent further harm,” he said.
