On May 22, 2025, at 3:25 AM, operatives of the Davao City Cyber Response Team (Davao City CRT) conducted an entrapment operation in Bucana, Davao City that led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man, alias “Ramil,” for online sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl.

The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by the victim, alias “Barbie,” and her aunt, alias “Rachelle,” 40, at the Davao City CRT office. According to the victim, Ramil persistently sent her sexually explicit messages and offered money in exchange for sexual favors. These messages sent to the victim every morning contained lewd and vulgar content.

Further investigation revealed that the victim is a niece of the suspect’s live-in partner and that they are residing in the same household.

“Ramil” is facing charges for violations of RA No. 11930 (Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children or OSAEC and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Materials or CSAEM Act of 2022) and RA No. 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act of 1992), both in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

The operation aligns with the directive of Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, Chief of the PNP, to strengthen cyber patrolling and take immediate legal action to ensure that cybercriminals do not have a place on social media platforms. Police Brigadier General Bernard R Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), commended the team for the successful operation. He also reminded the public, stating, “Stay vigilant and never tolerate any form of coercion. If you are a victim of online abuse, report it immediately to the nearest ACG office so we can take swift action and bring offenders to justice.”
