On July 26, 2025, at 3:46 PM in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, operatives of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Cyber Response Team conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of a 46-year-old man, alias “Japoy,” for the illegal sale of crested myna birds online.

“Japoy” is facing charges for violation of Section 27 of RA No. 9147 (Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001) in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

Further, two crested myna birds were rescued from the suspect and turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija, for proper care and custody.

Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, commended the operatives for the successful operation. “The online selling of wild animals is strictly regulated by law. Sellers who disregard this may face serious penalties. We urge the public to report any similar illegal activities to the nearest ACG office for immediate action,โ€ he said.
