On August 4, 2025, the Regional Trial Court of Zamboanga Sibugay convicted a 29-year-old man, alias “JC,” for violation of Section 11(g) of RA No. 11934 (SIM Registration Act of 2022) in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) and sentenced him to community service.

“JC” was arrested on February 24, 2025, through an entrapment operation conducted by the Zamboanga Sibugay Cyber Response Team for the illegal online sale of a SIM card.

Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, lauded the operatives for the court’s conviction of their arrested individual. “The PNP ACG reminds the public that these bank accounts can be exploited by cybercriminals for illegal online activities. We urge everyone to report any information related to the sale of personal bank cards to the nearest ACG office for appropriate action,” he added.
