On April 2, 2025, at 6:14 PM in Grace Park, Caloocan City, operatives of the Northern District Anti-Cybercrime Team (NDACT) conducted an entrapment operation that led to the apprehension of a 30-year-old male, alias “Jepoy,” for illegal online sale of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) device.

The said operation emanated from the proactive cyber patrolling of NDACT during which they found a post from “Jepoy” on Facebook offering VoIP device for Php40,000.00.

Operatives confiscated one (1) unit of VoIP and Ethernet Switch with 24 ports which will be used as evidence for the prosecution of the case.

“Jepoy” is facing charges for violations of Sections 4(a)(2) (Illegal Interception) and 4(a)(5) (Misuse of Devices) of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) and Section 1 of Act No. 3846 (Radio Control Act), as amended by RA No. 584, all in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175.

The operation aligns with the directive of Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, Chief of the PNP, to intensify cyber patrolling, combat cybercrimes, and ensure public safety in the digital environment. Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), commended the NDACT for their successful arrest of the suspect. He explained, “This device is used to connect calls to by exploiting cellular phone lines, bypassing the authorized switching facilities of licensed telecommunications operators, which makes its operation illegal. It also involves using VoIP gateways to circumvent the proper telecommunication lines in the Philippines. The PNP ACG is committed to ensuring that this device does not make its way into the local market, and any individuals involved in selling such illegal equipment will be held accountable.”
