The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) busted two syndicates responsible for perpetrating credit card fraud after ACG operatives arrested four suspects during separate police operations in Pasay City, this morning.

In his report to POLICE SENIOR SUPERINTENDENT MARNI C MARCOS Jr, Director of ACG, Police Senior Inspector John Paras Chief, Investigation Section and team leader in the police operation, identified the arrested suspects as Erick John Arellano, 18; Mariano Bajamunde, 25; Augustine Gonzales, 23; and Albino Pineda, 24.

“The successful police operations this morning are the result of the cooperation between and among the concerned bank, the victim-clients and the police,” PSSUPT Marcos Jr said even as he encouraged victims “to trust and to cooperate with the PNP to solve crimes such as credit card frauds when victims cooperate with the police.”

According to PSI Paras, the police operation was mounted by the ACG after the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) complained that two of its credit card holders were victimized by fraudulent credit card purchases amounting to almost Php80,000.00

In the complaint of BPI to the ACG it was alleged that the two victims disputed the bank’s Credit Card Statements saying that the card holders never purchased the items reflected in the credit card statements. The first card holder disputed the credit card charges for the alleged purchase of a 49” flat TV worth Php19,999.00, while the second card holder denied ever buying a refrigerator and a split-type air-conditioning unit worth Php39,999.00 through their credit card.

The ACG immediately formed a 5-man team, which laid down an entrapment operation against the two groups, by posing as the delivery crews for the said items.

First to fall were Arellano and Bajamunde, who purchased the air-conditioning unit, which the police delivered at 118 Suerte St., Pasay City; followed by Gonzales and Pineda who were arrested at 159 Fresno St, also in Pasay City, while on the act of accepting the TV set they fraudulently purchased using the fake credit cards.

Seized from the suspects’ possession were several fake LTO Driver’s Licenses and BIR Tax Payer’s IDs, which show the suspects photos but under different fictitious names.

With the leadership of PSSUPT MARNI C MARCOS JR, Director PNP ACG, this marks another accomplishment in the continuous effort to combat cyber criminals.
