Camp BGEN RAFAEL T CRAME, Quezon City – on February 4, 2022, Pauleen Velasquez, female, 31 years old, married and a resident of Brgy. Lagao, General Santos City was arrested as a result of a joint operation by personnel of RACU 12 led by PLTCOL HARRY B DAWAYAN, JR, Assistant Chief, under the direct supervision of PCOL JUNNY S BUENACOSA, Chief, RACU 12 together with Police Station 3, General Santos CPO led by PCpl Rayden Peter M Berna.
The accused was nabbed by virtue of a Warrant of Arrest for Criminal Case No. 21-34826 for violation of Sec. 4(c)(4) online libel of Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (RA 10175) issued on February 3, 2022 by Hon. Dennis A. Velasco, Presiding Judge, RTC Branch 23, Lagao, General Santos City.
Velasquez’ arrest stemmed from the complaint filed by Greggy James Dela Peña who has been the target of the libelous statements posted by the latter using her dummy facebook account. According to Dela Peña, the suspect accused him of “Ana lang! mang scam tapos padayon gihapon ang kinabuhi, bayribitawon intyong milyones na gikuha samoa para sa Negosyo?.Mga baga og nawong !? ”
In light of the growing cases of cyber libel, PBGEN ROBERT T RODRIGUEZ, the Director of the PNP ACG, reminds the public to use social media responsibly. “Always think twice before or when posting and expressing ourselves online. Statements that are charged with emotions like anger, bias or prejudice can have consequences,” He said.
