By virtue of a Warrant of Arrest (WOA) issued by Hon. Rufus G Malecdan, Jr., Presiding Judge of First Judicial Region, RTC, Branch 60, Baguio City, a fifty (58) year old woman was arrested by operatives of Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit Cordillera (RACU COR) on October 21, 2022 at about 5:56PM in San Carlos City, Pangasinan.

Sometime in May, suspect told the victim that he is to receive a package from her containing huge amount of money purposely for the start of their business together when she arrives in the country. She told victim that he must safekeep the money for her.

Suspect then told victim that upon arrival of the package, it was detected in the scanning procedure that the package contained huge amount of money that was illegal. She then asked complainant to pay Php250,000.00 for the release of the package.

Victim was able to send Php65,000.00 to suspect. Due to his eagerness to be able to complete the required payment for the release of the package, he borrowed money from his cousin. His cousin eventually told him that he is a victim of Romance Scam/Package Scam, prompting the complainant to report the incident at RACU COR.

“As more and more people are engaging on online dating, ACG reminds you to be very careful and look for signs of ‘red flags. When your virtual girlfriend/boyfriend suddenly ask for money, think again. You might be a victim of Romance Scam,” PBGEN DORIA, Director of ACG said.
