On May 31, 2025, at about 8:20 PM, in Sinunuc, Zamboanga City, operatives of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 9 (RACU 9) conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man, alias “Danny,” for harassing and extorting a woman using explicit photos and videos.
The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by a 33-year-old woman, alias “Belinda,” against her ex-boyfriend, who allegedly threatened to publicly distribute their intimate photos and videos he had secretly recorded during their past relationship. The suspect attempted to coerce “Belinda” into reconciling with him. Upon her refusal, he demanded, Php500.00 in exchange for not releasing the explicit materials.
The victim then agreed to meet the suspect and hand over the amount demanded, in prior coordination with RACU 9.
“Danny” is facing charges for violations of Articles 286 (Grave Coercion) and 294 (Robbery with Intimidation against Person) of the Revised Penal Code, RA No. 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism of 2009), and RA No. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004), all in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
This operation supports the pillars of Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, Chief of the PNP, in ensuring swift and responsive actions in addressing cybercrime and protecting the public welfare.
Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), commended RACU 9 for the successful operation. He also stated, “The PNP ACG is dedicated to ensuring that those responsible for online abuse are held accountable. We encourage the public to report these crimes and work with us to help protect individuals from these harmful acts.”
