On May 5, 2025, at about 8:30 PM in Tabuk City, Kalinga Province, operatives of the Kalinga Provincial Cyber Response Team (PCRT), conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man, alias “Roy,” for photo and video voyeurism.
The operation stemmed from the complaint filed by the victim, against the suspect, who is her ex-boyfriend, for sharing her explicit photos and videos online. Allegedly, he threatened to continue circulating the content unless she agreed to meet him and engage in sexual acts. Out of fear and distress, the victim continued to engage the suspect, which enabled authorities to immediately carry out the entrapment.
The suspect is facing charges for violations of RA No. 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act) and RA No. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act), both in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act).
The operation reflects the directive of Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, Chief of the PNP, to intensify both proactive and reactive measures against cybercrime and ensure the safety and security of the public in the digital space.
Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), lauded the Kalinga PCRT for their swift and decisive action. “This operation highlights the commitment of the PNP ACG to pursue cybercriminals, especially on social media platforms like Facebook. We urge the public to report any internet-related crimes to our offices nationwide so we can respond promptly and build a safer cyberspace,” he stated.
