On June 4, 2025, at about 8:30 PM in Cotabato City, operatives of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in coordination with the Office of City Social Welfare and Development Cotabato City (OCSWD-Cotabato City), conducted an operation that resulted in the rescue of a 15-year-old girl, alias “Princess,” following a complaint related to online sexual abuse or exploitation.

The rescue operation stemmed from when the victim’s father sought the assistance of the OCSWD to report that his daughter and her boyfriend, both minors, were being extorted online.

Initial investigation revealed that the social media account of “Princess” had been illegally accessed. The perpetrator allegedly downloaded private and sensitive images that the victim had previously sent to her boyfriend. The suspect then used the stolen content to extort money from both minors, threatening further exposure.

The rescued victim was immediately turned over to the OCSWD-Cotabato City for psychological assessment, evaluation, and appropriate intervention.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify and locate the suspect. The case is being closely monitored to ensure the safety and well-being of the minors involved and to support potential case buildup.

The suspect is facing charges for violations of RA No. 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism of 2009) and RA No. 11930 (Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children or OSAEC and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials or CSAEM Act of 2022), both in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

The operation aligns with the directive of Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, Chief of the PNP, to intensify cyber patrols and pursue immediate legal actions against online offenders to ensure that cybercriminals are held accountable. Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, commended operatives for the successful rescue operation. “We do not tolerate any form of child abuse, whether online or offline. The PNP ACG will remain relentless in pursuing those who exploit children and will continue to fight for a safe digital space for every child,” he said.
