On June 22, 2025, at about 6:50 PM in San Juan City, operatives of the Cyber Financial Crime Unit (CFCU) of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of a 39-year-old woman, alias “Bebet,” for using a different identity, presenting fake identification cards, and falsifying receipts to fraudulently order pork lechon online.

The operation was initiated following a complaint filed by a 39-year-old restaurant owner regarding the suspect’s fraudulent scheme. According to the victim, on March 18, 2025, the suspect contacted the restaurant via online messaging platform to order one whole lechon, amounting to Php20,000.00. The next day, she sent what appeared to be an online payment confirmation, claiming that the amount had been settled. Trusting the legitimacy of the receipt, the victim delivered the lechon to the suspect.

However, a week later, the restaurant owner discovered that the receipt was fabricated and no payment was received, confirming that the transaction was fraudulent.

On May 26, 2025, another Viber account under different name ordered pork lechon amounting to Php32,000.00. On the following day, the suspect sent her online payment and insisted to deliver the item. However, upon checking her bank account, the victim found that the payment of the suspect did not appear. This prompted the victim to rep[ort to the PNP ACG that led to the entrapment operation.

“Bebet” is facing charges for violations of Article 315 (Swindling/Estafa) and Article 178 (Using a Fictitious Name and Concealing True Name) of the Revised Penal Code, both in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

The operation supports the directive of Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, Chief of the PNP, to take immediate action on complaints to ensure that perpetrators do not have a place on social media platforms.

Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP ACG, commended the Unit for the successful operation. He also stated, “PNP ACG reminds the public to verify the receipts received before delivering items. If you are a victim of cybercrime, report it immediately to the nearest PNP ACG office for appropriate action. We remain committed to holding online scammers accountable and protecting the public from deceitful schemes.”
