On June 3, 2025, at 3:18 PM, operatives of the Camarines Sur Provincial Cyber Response Team (CamSur PCRT) conducted an entrapment operation in Calabanga, Camarines Sur, that led to the arrest of two college students, identified by the aliases “Popoy,” 21, and “Basha,” 22, for using another person’s identity to solicit money online.

The operation stemmed from a 40-year-old man, alias “Emet,” personally appearing before the CamSur PCRT to report that his identity had been fraudulently used by the suspects. According to the report, the suspects had been soliciting money via social media while impersonating him, claiming to be raising funds for an outreach activity.

Further investigation revealed that several individuals had already sent money to the suspects, believing they were helping the real “Emet.”

Both suspects are facing charges for violation of Section 4(b)3 (Computer-Related Identity Theft) of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, Chief of the PNP, expressed full support for the PNP ACG, emphasizing the importance of a proactive and unified approach in addressing the growing challenges of cybercrime. Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, commended the team for the successful operation. He also reminded the public, stating, “Misusing someone else’s identity online to deceive others is a crime. The PNP ACG is committed to protecting the public from digital fraud and ensuring offenders are held accountable,” he stated.
