On June 21, 2025, at about 5:15 PM, in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, operatives of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 2 (RACU 2) conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of a 39-year-old woman, alias “Yana,” for blackmailing and extorting a woman using explicit photos and videos.
The investigation revealed that the 19-year-old victim, alias “Yana,” had lost her cellphone, which contained his logged-in social media accounts. The suspect, allegedly stole the device, accessed Jayjay’s social media accounts, downloaded explicit photos of him and his girlfriend, and circulated it on social media platforms. Not satisfied with this, the suspect demanded Php20,000.00 from the victim in exchange for not spreading the explicit materials further.
“Yana” is facing charges for violations of Article 294 (Robbery with Intimidation against Persons) of the Revised Penal Code and RA No. 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009), both in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
The operation is in line with the directive of Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, Chief of the PNP, to take immediate legal action to complaints to ensure that cybercriminals do not have a place on social media platforms. Police Brigadier General Bernard R. Yang, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), commended RACU 2 for the successful operation. He also stated, “We will not tolerate those who exploit others through fear and intimidation. The PNP ACG is committed to holding offenders accountable and bringing them to justice. We urge the public to remain alert and report any form of online exploitation immediately.”
